Zoolandish

When attempting to parallel park outside of a casting office today, I accidentally hugged the curb a little tight and started scrapping one tire/wheel (sorry Kelly), anyway I looked up and saw a guy walking on the sidewalk. I gave a look like oops, eek and then smiled. He looked confused (maybe he didn't notice the loud screeching sounds coming from my direction), I felt embarrassed, and just as he walked parallel to my car I saw that he was carrying a model portfolio...
(Let me do a little disclaimer, I am not anti-model, I have friends who are models and I love them dearly, but my encounters as of late entertain me)
Anyway, I assumed he was heading to the same audition as myself. For some reason it can be a little awkward having models at acting auditions, sometimes it seems as though we are just two different breeds. I made it up to the office and sat down to wait, much like waiting at a doctor's office. I made my first observation, I always know the regs (that is what I call myself and the other non-models) from the models. The model guys have fitted solid black or white, scoop or v-neck, t-shirts. The regs are dressed with wardrobe fitting for the role we are auditioning for. Oh, and the male regs wear jeans larger than me and the models and I could swap pants if they didn't mind capri length, which some of them don't...
One of the conversations I overheard went like this, we will call the guys Bill and Ted:
Bill: Hey, are you with SMG (a local modeling agency)?
Ted: Yes, are you?
Bill: I just signed with them.
Ted: Cool.
Bill: Do you get a lot of work?
Ted: Well, actually I just got back from Portland, doing 2 weeks of runway for Nike.
Bill: Wow, awesome. Congratulations.
Ted: You don't really need to congratulate me... I'm just good looking. I guess you could just thank my parents!!!!!!!
- This really happened, I looked up and didn't attempt to hide my facial expressions. Wow. -
It sounded just as awkward and pompous as it reads.
There were a couple of other stories that I was going to blog about, but my power just went out!?! Weird! My battery is going to die, so I will post this and maybe write more later.

You always have fun posts! I love reading about what you're up to! Well, Thank you for your prayers! God is in control and I know he has a plan. What is your schedule like the next couple weeks? Friday afternoons are always good for me.

I get it and thoroughly appreciate the entertainment value of the story... it's funny!

I think that, however, is about the most intelligent, honest, down to Earth, respectable response I could imagine to a comment like that. I think it's great that he's willing to admit that some of his modeling opportunity came from no extraordinary talent of his own, but rather just good genetics! Granted the footwork, patience, and networking that probably have gone into making a career of modeling deserve some recognition. But I just think it's awesome that he was humble and in touch with reality enough to know (and be willing to share) that he really had nothing to do with it.

(I know I'm a little late on commenting... I just ran into this article during a google search for something else)

That said, I would have loved to be there and actually witness that conversation. Thanks for sharing!
