Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Pt. 1
Let's start off by saying, I didn't have high expectations for this movie. I was disappointed by Eclipse. New Moon was my favorite book, and thankfully, New Moon the movie brought real emotion, beautiful cinematography, and a memorable, yet heartbreaking, soundtrack. Eclipse left me with memories of bad wigs, cheesy acting, and a boring soundtrack.
That being said, Breaking Dawn Part One was a valiant contender against the mighty last book.
The director, Bill Condon, got kinda crazy with this one.
There are dream sequences, hallucinations, micro close-ups of vampirized veins crystallizing inside the body, werewolf-vision, a giant cake made of corpses, and more blood than in the other three movies put together. I read all the books four times, and still found myself biting my lips at points, wondering what was going to happen next. I think this movie was Kristen Stewart's best portrayal of the Bella I'd hoped to come out the books onto the screen. Although I found the Cullen family acting awkward (I love Esme! So cute!) during the scenes where they haven't fed in weeks, and the werewolves don't impress me, I think Taylor Lautner stepped it up a bit as a torn and fierce Jacob. The score was okay, the only thing I liked about it (besides Bruno Mars's It Will Rain) was that it included some memorable favorite tunes from Twilight as a tribute to Edward and Bella's relationship. There's also a sweet montage of Bella's life towards the end that even made me choke up a bit.
This movie could seriously give someone (me) nightmares. Maybe the scariest part was how they made Bella look during her horrifying pregnancy. That was some gross and realistic makeup/cgi/both. The birth scene pushes PG-13 to the limit, and the wolves are genuinely menacing for the first time. It leaves off exactly where you predicted it would, but is a fascinating finale.
Bottom Line: The movie stayed pretty close to the book, which would make any reader happy, and brought to life the crazy events in the book that made me want to read it four times. I am excited to see it again, and will probably see it 4+ times in the theater, since we have to wait a whole year to see the finale :( Take notes from Harry Potter, Summit!
Seriously, though, it's good. Thanks Nicole for letting me guest-star!
P.S.- You get to see the trailer for next June's Snow White and the Huntsman, starring Kristen Stewart as Snow White and Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen. It looks good!

Great review!!
Nicole, I'm like the world's most squeamish person. I can't even begin to tell you how much of a wuss I am when it comes to blood and gore but I didn't think the birth scene was horrible. I had to cover my eyes a bit but it was FAR less gory than they could've made it. Definitely bloodier than the last two but not horror movie gore. I'm pretty sure I've seen worse on CSI! I was VERY pleased with how they did it ;-)
Allie- that was a very well-thought-out, concise review! I LOVED the movie, so much that I saw it again 4 hrs later! Breaking Dawn is my favorite book and the movie did it justice. I loved the music, especially all the songs revisited from the previous movies. The pile of drained humans in the dream sequence, and the "blood drinking" were disgusting, but Bella has to realize the possible reality of her choice. The only thing I was disappointed with was Edward's lack of absolute brokenness in the film, as it is written in the novel.
