If only it were this easy...

I could have used some Ruby Slippers last night.
The Plan was to leave for the airport as soon as Kelly got home from work, about 7:00 am Friday Morning. However, Kelly was in a little fender bender on his way to work Thursday night (I was going to start this post off with... 2007:Going out with a Bang! OR 2007 Was a Big Hit! OR 2007 was Smashing!) but, I decided it was a bit too cheesy, even for me.
Back to the story, Kelly nor any of the other two drivers, including the driver of the 2007 BMW, involved were injured. Kelly is just a little sore today, but overall is doing well. His headache came mostly from his Friday morning conversations with the insurance company etc. Kelly had driven our car back to our apartment and I was truly astonished our car was even driveable, I described the hood of the car to my aunt as a hard taco shell oozing green liquid. I think it is safe to assume anytime anything is oozing green liquid it is not a good sign. While following Kelly to the repair shop Friday morning, I lost him, he had forgot his cell phone so that was great and I had been in too much of a hurry to bother grabbing my new Magellan GPS! So, after driving around for what seemed like forever, Kelly called from the repair shop, I finally found the shop, picked up Kelly and we headed home to grab our bags.
We then went to the airport and were excited when checking in as standby passengers that we received seat assignments, this is usually an indication of a smooth trip. So, we got settled at the gate, watched The Office and ate greasy Burger King. Our choices were BK, Starbucks (they were out of all sandwiches etc) or hot dogs. On the way to the "Food Court," I saw a dozen magazine covers of the semi-new size 2 Carrie Underwood and as I stood staring at the menu I honestly thought, what would she do? I quickly remembered a) I am not a vegetarian and b) I am not a mega-star, and ordered my $9.00 chicken nugget meal. It is always a pleasure to eat chicken cut into the shape of little crowns. Easier to dunk I suppose with the points.
Kelly's seat was given away on the first flight and I managed to only make it onto the ramp before I was called back. Awhile later Kelly and I were both buckled in our very back row seats of a different plane, not caring that we were squished and soon to be hard of hearing from the roar of the engines, we were just thrilled to be heading up to WA. Just when I was really starting to dive into my magazine article..."All standby passengers..." Our seats were given up, a first for both Kelly and I, and we quickly found ourselves patiently waiting back at the gate at which we had started our day. We made the next flight and landed in WA about 9 hours after arriving at the airport in CA. This time our seats were on the other end of the plane, flying First Class. When we first took off, Kelly looked at me and said, "this was worth the wait, right?" I responded with a simple look that clearly displayed my answer of, um...NO! However, I did not complain as I enjoyed my comfy seat, full meal and attentive service. Kelly didn't complain either, even as mystery liquid dripped on him from the overhead compartment.
So, like usual, life proved to be an adventure. How disappointed I would be to simply type, "Yesterday morning we flew home to WA just perfectly as planned. The End."
Ok, so maybe I would have been OK with that.
Yet, this last week has made it easy for me to think of a few things I will be thankful for in 2008:
1. Kelly knowing his schedule more than 1 1/2 weeks in advance, so we can buy tickets home for Christmas. (I am still SUPER thankful for the passes provided :)
2. Having either a new car (if our Honda is totaled) or a new paint job on the Honda.
3. Not getting lost as a often with the help of my new GPS.
4. Getting to thank God daily for the little adventures that make my life a little more fun to write about.
As it was so perfectly quoted on our in flight meal trays:
"I will praise God's name in song and glorify Him with thanksgiving."
Psalm 69:30

yuck. I hate getting bumped from planes. A few years ago Beau and I waited in a London airport for two whole days, getting bumped from 11 different planes, and because it was the same week as the bomb scare we had to be frisked and our bags searched at the gate each and every time. I cried the whole second day until one of the gate agents took pity and gave us seats even though the plane was full. Shhh...don't tell anyone!

Needless to say, even though our trips used to be free, I never want to fly standby again!

I meant "shaped" of course. It's late and I've just returned from vacation and I'm loopy!
